Why Moms Without Food Allergy Kids Want More Food Free Fun

With food allergies on the rise, more parents are moving to food free alternatives for celebrating birthdays, trick or treat goodies, Valentines, and other special events.

pinataBut food allergy families aren’t the only people who appreciate these gestures.  Childhood obesity rates are also on the rise.  In fact, over the past three decades, childhood obesity rates in America have tripled, and today nearly one in three children in America are overweight or obese.

While there are several factors contributing to the rising obesity rate, many of these factors can be influenced or changed as each of us work to do our part to provide more food-free or nutritious food options, as well as opportunities for our kids to move their bodies and be active.

The Nationwide Let’s Move campaign, launched in 2010 is dedicated to helping Americans solve the childhood obesity problem and begin reversing its affects by the time the current rising generation reaches adulthood.  Resources, tips, and more ways to get involved can be found on their site.
